Mikael Frödin was born in September 1961 and is presently living by the lake Valloxen in Knivsta, Sweden. He shares his life with his two sons, born 1994 and 1997. The boys have both been on fishing trips since young age and have already experienced the thrill of landing their first Atlantic salmon. Mikael started tying his own flies at the age of thirteen and shortly thereafter his creations started giving him his first sought after sea trout. Since the age of 18 he’s lived as a professional fly tier and salmon fisher. During the -80’s and the 90’s he worked as a guide by some of Scandinavian’s best salmon rivers. It gave him not only interesting contacts but also irreplaceable experience.
He started his career as an innovative fly tier early on and a lot of the standard techniques and thoughts on salmon flies and fishing of today descend from his fly tying vise. Mikael wrote his first article in the fishing press in the beginning of the 80’s and is today an acknowledged writer of the leading sport fishing magazines all over the world. He has contributed in many salmon and fly tying books where the most well known book ought to be his own “Classic salmon flies” that was published in over 50.000 copies in 5 different languages. Mikael has also worked with several TV productions both in Sweden and abroad as well as participated in many acknowledged film productions.
Since the beginning of the 80’s he has been an active participant in the development of salmon flies and tackles and is today one of the most important actors behind the “Scandinavian Style”. Among the most popular and pioneering products is the SALAR series of hooks, fly tying materials and fly boxes as well as F.I.T.S tube system, that has revolutionized tube fly tying all over the world. Mikael promised himself early that the work within the fishing industry wouldn’t intrude on his fishing days. The last 25 years he has fished more than 100 days per year all over the world. There are not many spots where you can fish Atlantic salmon, where he hasn’t been yet.
Apart from the salmon fishing, he also has lots of experience from fishing sea trout and steelhead. The last 15 years he has travelled yearly to salt water destinations, where the favorite fish is the mighty tarpon. He has landed thousands of salmon, sea trout and steelheads over the years which have given him the extensive experience he has today. His qualification list holds two salmon over 50 pounds, nineteen over 40 pounds and ten sea trout over 22 pounds, which makes him undoubtedly one of the most experienced, well-known and successful fisherman of Scandinavia.
Born in Amsterdam in 1957, Martin is a marketing communication lecturer at Fontys University in the Netherlands. He is an avid fly fisherman and fly tyier, who loves to fish for trout, sea trout and grayling. He started tying in the 80s, won prizes at some fly tying competitions, and started to tie at shows and demos. Meanwhile he has been a regular tier at shows in Britain, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and Holland. Martin also tied in the USA, Italy and Sweden, and does demos at clubs and flyshops in Holland. He is a member of the Whiting and the Daiichi Pro Team, and flies of his appeared in books, such as the Leeson/Schollmeyer book Tying Emergers. Some of his flies are part of the Master’s Collection of the Catskills Museum in the USA.
At the Festival Martin will tie Wulff type flies, his Paraloop Emerger, a Red Ant and a simple but very effective cdc fly.
Nato nel 1970 a Cernusco sul Naviglio, dove è cresciuto, vive oggi con la famiglia a Monza. È pedagogista ed educatore professionale con ragazzi in difficoltà. Pescatore dall’età di sei anni, si è fatto le ossa sui torrenti della Valsassina e sul fiume Adda, che scorre non lontano da casa sua. Appassionato naturalista, amante dei pesci e degli insetti, si avvicina alla pesca a mosca come tappa ‘necessaria’ di un percorso di affinamento del suo rapporto con la natura. La pesca a mosca, infatti, unisce in sé la passione per i pesci e per gli insetti, la costruzione degli artificiali, il collezionismo e i viaggi, che ha effettuato un po’ in tutto il mondo, dalla Mongolia agli USA, dalla Scandinavia al Messico.
Inizia a costruire artificiali grazie agli insegnamenti del fratello maggiore Paolo. Il confronto e il continuo stimolo a conoscere lo spingono a sperimentare sempre nuovi materiali e dressing, ricercando funzionalità e semplicità. Col tempo si cimenta e appassiona anche alla costruzione di mosche da salmone, streamer, mosche da mare, kebari e mosche da Tenkara. La curiosità e la voglia di confrontarsi con tutti è alla base di questa sua passione e delle numerose collaborazioni e sperimentazioni a cui partecipa con entusiasmo sia in Italia che all’estero (Spagna, Francia, Inghilterra...), sia nel campo della costruzione di mosche che in quello della gestione e salvaguardia dei fiumi. È socio fondatore e Segretario Nazionale dell’IFTA (Italian Fly Tyiers Association), organizzazione che riunisce in sodalizio i costruttori di mosche italiani e che si occupa di divulgare l’arte della costruzione delle mosche artificiali attraverso la partecipazione a fiere e manifestazioni del settore e la collaborazione con riviste e siti web.
Martie is passionated of all what have to do with flytying. He likes to create flies with small details and huge attraction for the fish. Some years ago he was invited to come over to the fly festival into Castel di Sangro and from that moment he felt in love for the italian way of living and flytying with camoscio. He has visited many shows in Italy and other places, he wrote many articles for magazines for fishing the asp with the fly. But the most important thing is to be in Italy, in Vicenza, with all his friends sharing good moments.
Nato a Legnano nel 1975, ricorda sempre quando il prozio, di ritorno da una pescata a mosca, gli mostrò il suo cestino, davanti al quale esclamò: «Mamma, guarda... le trote con la varicella». Erano trote fario... Dopo qualche mese iniziarono le sue esperienze di pesca. Trasferitosi nell'estate del 1982 con la famiglia in Sardegna, vi è rimasto per quasi quindici anni, dedicandosi principalmente alla pesca in mare, spaziando dalla pesca da terra con la bolognese al surfcasting al rockfishing pesante, continuando comunque a essere interessato e attratto dalla pesca in acque interne. Rientrato in Lombardia nel 1997 per motivi di lavoro, in provincia di Varese dove tuttora risiede, ha praticato varie tecniche sino ad approdare nel 2009 alla pesca a mosca, che è subito diventata esclusiva. La ritiene la modalità di pescare più bella, affascinante, complessa e coinvolgente che ci sia. E la costruzione è una passione nella passione.
Nato a Roma nel 1942, è diventato pescatore a mosca verso la metà degli anni Settanta. Si è subito appassionato alla costruzione e ha letto tutti i 'sacri testi', provando e riprovando. Su consiglio del suo primo maestro, Renato Repetti, ha cominciato a fare qualche gara. Dopo i primi timidi inizi, ha ottenuto buone prestazioni al Gran Premio Città di Pisa e a Pontremoli, arrivando primo. Al XIV Trofeo Bisenzio ha conquistato il premio per la miglior ninfa, al XV Trofeo Bisenzio è salito sul podio. È stato terzo al Trofeo Città di Genova e a Riva del Garda, secondo al III Bugia Nen (2016).
Istruttore della scuola SIM, fa parte del club Fly 90 Versilia, ha scritto qualche articolo per «La Pesca Mosca e Spinning» e partecipa ai contest indetti da questa, ai quali è arrivato cinque volte primo.
